Taxation Law Implications on Investment
Question: Talk about the Taxation Law Implications on Investment. Answer: Presentation The accompanying task presents charge suggestions on venture securing as for the arrangements and guidelines of Income Tax Assessment Act (ITAA), 1997 and set of principles under TASA 2009. The report covers the conversation on changeless foundation in Australia through different dealers for Alex Tan and Ryan Tan, Singapore inhabitant siblings. The report expresses the lasting foundation from Melbourne and Cambrai property activities alongside the significant assessment suggestions on the business activity pay. Further, the report presents the private status of the siblings and the important duty obligation in Australia regarding the presentation in charge. Considering the obtaining of properties and interest in protections the report features the use of capital increase tax collection runs according to ITAA 1997 for the offer of protections including the development and destruction of townhouses and meat business. Another piece of the report presents the expense suggestions on the removal of the townhouses concerning the arrangements on salary from different sources. The assessees wanted to arrange the townhouses to raise the necessary assets for the improvement of property in Cambrai including the acquisition of creatures for re-foundation of business group. Considering the standards of ITAA 1997, the report features the conversation on recognizable proof of activity from Cambrai property as business to profit the finding of business misfortunes for future years. With the end goal of possibility financing choices, the report presents the examination and assessment suggestions for the intrigue conclusion during the tax collection year. Considering the procurement of property and business tasks of Alex and Ryan in Australia the task features the examination of structure choices for charge obligation including the purposes of qualities and shortcomings of the potential choices. Perpetual foundation in Australia According to the guidelines of ITAA 97, perpetual foundation alludes to the spot at which the assessee conveys the business activities or the individual brings the business through a specialist exposed to the changelessness of the spot. As indicated by the segment 6(1) ITAA, 1997 changeless foundation can be fixed business spot, development or an office that happens under the duty bargains of Australia. Fixed spot of business comprises of three segments for example the business ought to be worked through a fixed or specific geographic territory alongside the degree of perpetual quality to the assessee (Chaudhri v FCT 2001 ATC 4214). Spot is another fundamental segment that includes offices or sources to direct the business exercises while third segment business alludes to the exercises to be continued incompletely or completely at the changeless spot (Higgins, Omer Phillips, 2015). Also, building site is viewed as changeless foundation just if the residency of development is more or equivalent to the measure of time referenced in the ITAA guidelines. Moreover, organization alludes to the changeless foundation that is constrained by the head while exercises are embraced by the specialists at a fixed spot of business. As needs be, unimportant utilization of dealers would not bring about changeless foundation in Australia except if the rules under area 6(1) ITAA 97 is properly consented to since specialists are people help with gaining the particular prerequisites at a given purpose of time against the business charges (Chirico et al., 2015). Foundation and duty ramifications of Melbourne and Cambrai activities In the current contextual analysis, Alex and Ryan wanted to gain two properties in Australia comprising of once-over relinquished plant in a suburb of Melbourne while the other was 5000 hectare ranch property close Cambrai. Considering the guidelines of ITAA 1997 segment 6, changeless foundation alludes to the spot through which or the spot at which an individual conveys the business tasks. In current circumstance it has been seen that the two siblings chose to extend business activities in Australia and accordingly wanted to obtain two properties. It was concluded that the property in Melbourne would be re-built to manufacture townhouses while the other property in Cambrai would be fixed for enhancements to convey the activities of business group. It has been seen that both the properties to be gained with the expectation to make fixed spot to work business exercises and not impermanent. Further, the siblings themselves would lead procedure on both the properties and not through any operator; in this manner, ITAA 97 principle on controlling the business doesn't emerge however guideline of TASA 2009 is appropriate (Mason Harrison, 2015). Since the measures of ITAA 1997 area 6(1) has been agreed to as far as business activities at a fixed spot, the tasks in Melbourne and Cambrai will be viewed as lasting foundation. Salary from the business tasks from changeless foundation is available in Australia according to ITAA 1997 if the citizen has a place with the bargain nation if the business action is led through fixed spot in Australia. Further, addition or misfortune marked down of benefits as a perpetual foundation part would be available Under Capital Gain Taxation (CGT), ITAA 1997 including the recording of Australian annual expense form (Bimonte Stabile, 2015). Since, Alex and Ryan has a place with Singapore which is an arrangement nation and the procedure on property held as perpetual foundation in Australia, the siblings are subject to pay burdens on pay from such tasks according to ITAA 1997. Residency of the siblings and assessment presentation in Australia The siblings would be considered as Australian occupant for tax assessment reason in the event that they are really present in the nation for 183 days or all the more either consistently or with parts while the private status of perpetual foundation would be independent element (Johnson Poterba, 2016). In the given case, the length of the two siblings remain in Australia isn't referenced unmistakably consequently it tends to be said that on the off chance that their stay is over 183 days, at that point Alex and Ryan would be considered as Australian occupant. As needs be, the siblings would be subject to pay personal charges emerge from tasks in Australia including some other salary emerging in the nation. Additionally, perpetual foundation is viewed as a different element thus, the salary from such tasks would be available as business pay under Australian tax collection framework. The benefit pay for example misfortune or addition from offer of benefits utilized in lasting foundatio n activities would be available under Capital Gain Taxation. Use of CGT rules Benefit marked down of offers is available under CGT rules, ITAA 1997 if the offers held by the citizen as a venture either for present moment or for long haul. On the off chance that the offers are held for long haul then the cost component is diminished by applying indexation technique at a particular tax assessment rate according to ITAA 97. Despite what might be expected, on the off chance that the offers held for momentary period, at that point the indexation strategy would not be relevant for lessening the expense of gaining shares. Additionally, the pay marked down of offers obtained under business exchanging then benefit or misfortune from the offer of such offers would be considered as common business pay. In addition, the net resources of the siblings all through South East Asia esteemed to $7.5 million and gained from their dad esteemed to $1 million that is situated in Singapore would be available according to the Singapore tax assessment framework (Pomeranz, 2015). With the end goal of destruction and development of townhouses the siblings are qualified to guarantee derivation on the off chance that they have principle habitation in Australia according to their decision under segment 118-150 ITAA 97 (Ndikumana, 2015). Since the siblings don't possess any principle habitation in Australia, they are qualified for guarantee exclusion for the piece of townhouse to be utilized for private reason. Further, removal of townhouses and hamburger business would comprise the assessment obligation for the siblings as indicated by common business salary under Australian Income Tax since the offer of townhouses and meat business would be done as a piece of business activities. Offer portfolio Sum $ (million) Deals continues 1.75 Less: Brokerage 0.02 Less: Initial estimation of offers 0.63 Increase/(misfortune) on special of offers 1.11 (Source: Created by creator) Alex and Ryan are required to pay charge on the pay from offer of offers under CGT ITAA 1997 at the pace of 33.33% as long haul resources. In any case, the siblings are qualified to guarantee half reasoning on the available sum. Duty Implication on removal of townhouses The motivation behind obtaining the property, development of townhouses including the removal was to gain benefit and to bring assets up in normal interims for the siblings in Australia. The goal of raising assets incorporates the age of assets to complete improvement and fix deal with Cambrai property to restore business crowd. Further, the expectation to sell the townhouses includes benefit winning and to raise assets at normal interims henceforth, the salary will be burdened as conventional business pay. Property valuation (benefit/misfortune) Cost of Fitzroy square 1.25 Business and expenses 0.02 Destruction cost 0.26 Cost of development 0.04 Development Cost 2.40 Intrigue cost (yearly) 0.04 All out Cost 4.00 Less: Estimated deals continues 2 lacking squares 0.65 6 town houses 4.80 2 living arrangement town houses 0.68 All out Sales 6.13 Assessed Profit (Total Sales-Total Cost) 2.13 (Source: Created by creator) Calculation on costs and expected salary from Melbourne property reflected anticipated pay, in this way the siblings are qualified to pay charge on inco

King Richard I, the Lionheart, of England, Crusader
King Richard I, the Lionheart (September 8, 1157ââ¬âApril 6, 1199) was an English king and one of the leaders of the Third Crusade. He is known both for his military skill and the neglect of his realm because of his long absence. Fast Facts: Richard I the Lionheart Known For:à Helped lead the Third Crusade, monarch of England from 1189 to 1199Also Known As:à Richard CÃ
âur de Lion, Richard the Lionheart, Richard I of EnglandBorn:à September 8, 1157 in Oxford, EnglandParents: King Henry II of England and Eleanor of AquitaineDied:à April 6, 1199 in Chà ¢lus,à Duchy of AquitaineSpouse: Berengaria of NavarreNotable Quote: We, however, place the love of God and His honour above our own and above the acquisition of many regions. Early Life Born September 8, 1157, Richard the Lionheart was the third legitimate son of King Henry II of England. Often believed to have been the favorite son of his mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard had three older siblings, William (who died in infancy), Henry, and Matilda, as well as four younger: Geoffrey, Lenora, Joan, and John. As with many English rulers of the Plantagenet line, Richard was essentially French and his focus tended to lean toward the familys lands in France rather than England. Following the separation of his parents in 1167, Richard was invested duchy of Aquitaine. Revolt Against Henry II Well-educated and of dashing appearance, Richard quickly demonstrated skill in military matters and worked to enforce his fathers rule in the French lands. In 1174, encouraged by their mother, Richard and his brothers Henry (the Young King) and Geoffrey (Duke of Brittany) rebelled against their fathers rule. Responding quickly, Henry II was able to crush this revolt and captured Eleanor. With his brothers defeated, Richard submitted to his fathers will and asked for forgiveness. His greater ambitions checked, Richard turned his focus to maintaining his rule over Aquitaine and controlling his nobles. Shifting Alliances Ruling with an iron fist, Richard was forced to put down major revolts in 1179 and 1181ââ¬â1182. During this time, tensions again rose between Richard and his father when the latter demanded that his son pay homage to his older brother Henry. Refusing, Richard was soon attacked by Henry the Young King and Geoffrey in 1183. Confronted by this invasion and a revolt of his own barons, Richard was able to skillfully turn back these attacks. Following the death of Henry the Young King in June 1183, Richards father King Henry II ordered John to continue the campaign. Seeking aid, Richard formed an alliance with King Philip II of France in 1187. In return for Philips assistance, Richard ceded his rights to Normandy and Anjou. That summer, upon hearing of the Christian defeat at the Battle of Hattin, Richard took the cross at Tours with other members of the French nobility. Victory and Becoming King In 1189, Richard and Philips forces united against Henry II and won a victory at Ballans in July. Meeting with Richard, Henry agreed to name him as his heir. Two days later, Henry died and Richard ascended to the English throne. He was crowned at Westminster Abbey in September 1189. Following his coronation, a rash of anti-Semitic violence swept through the country as Jews had been barred from the ceremony. Punishing the perpetrators, Richard immediately began making plans to go on a crusade to the Holy Land. Going to extremes to raise money for the army, he finally was able to assemble a force of around 8,000 men. After making preparations for the protection of his realm in his absence, Richard and his army departed in the summer of 1190. Dubbed the Third Crusade, Richard planned to campaign in conjunction with Philip II and Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa of the Holy Roman Empire. The Crusade Begins Rendezvousing with Philip at Sicily, Richard aided in settling a succession dispute on the island, which involved his sister Joan, and conducted a brief campaign against Messina. During this time, he proclaimed his nephew, Arthur of Brittany, to be his heir, leading his brother John to start planning a revolt at home. Moving on, Richard landed in Cyprus to rescue his mother and his future bride, Berengaria of Navarre. Defeating the islands despot, Isaac Komnenos, he completed his conquest and married Berengaria on May 12, 1191. Pressing on, he landed in the Holy Land at Acre on June 8. Shifting Alliances in the Holy Land Arriving in the Holy Land, Richard gave his support to Guy of Lusignan, who was fighting a challenge from Conrad of Montferrat for the kingship of Jerusalem. Conrad was in turn backed by Philip and Duke Leopold V of Austria. Putting aside their differences, the Crusaders captured Acre that summer. After taking the city, problems again arose as Richard contested Leopolds place in the Crusade. Though not a king, Leopold had ascended to the command of Imperial forces in the Holy Land after the death of Frederick Barbarossa in 1190. After Richards men pulled down Leopolds banner at Acre, the Austrian departed and returned home in anger. Soon after, Richard and Philip began arguing in regard to the status of Cyprus and the kingship of Jerusalem. In poor health, Philip elected to return to France leaving Richard without allies to face Saladins Muslim forces. Battling Saladin Pushing south, Richard defeated Saladin at Arsuf on September 7, 1191, and then attempted to open peace negotiations. Initially rebuffed by Saladin, Richard spent the early months of 1192 refortifying Ascalon. As the year wore on, both Richard and Saladins positions began to weaken and the two men entered into negotiations. Knowing that he could not hold Jerusalem if he took it and that John and Philip were plotting against him at home, Richard agreed to raze walls at Ascalon in exchange for a three-year truce and Christian access to Jerusalem. After the agreement was signed on September 2, 1192, Richard departed for home. Returning to England Shipwrecked en route to England, Richard was forced to travel overland and was captured by Leopold in December. Imprisoned first in Dà ¼rnstein and then at Trifels Castle in the Palatinate, Richard was largely kept in comfortable captivity. For his release, the Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI demanded 150,000 marks. While Eleanor of Aquitaine worked to raise the money for his release, John and Philip offered Henry VI 80,000 marks to hold Richard until at least Michaelmas 1194. Refusing, the emperor accepted the ransom and released Richard on February 4, 1194. Returning to England, Richard quickly forced John to submit to his will but did name his brother as his heir, supplanting his nephew Arthur. With the situation in England in hand, Richard returned to France to deal with Philip. Death Constructing an alliance against his former friend, Richard won several victories over the French during the next five years. In March 1199, Richard laid siege to the small castle of Chalus-Chabrol. On the night of March 25, while walking along the siege lines, he was struck in the left shoulder by an arrow. Unable to remove it himself, he summoned a surgeon who took out the arrow but severely worsened the wound in the process. Shortly thereafter, gangrene set in and the king died in his mothers arms on April 6, 1199. Legacy Richard has a mixed legacy, as some historians point to his military skill and the daring necessary to go on crusade, while others emphasize his cruelty and neglect for his realm. Though king for 10 years, he only spent around six months in England and the remainder of his reign in his French lands or abroad. He was succeeded by his brother John. Urban Poor Free Essays
The squatters in the Philippines have wreaked havoc in the country and they are out of control. The problem is quite obvious and the solution is staring everyone in the face; there are just not enough public servants with enough guts to address the issue. But someone has to put an end to the vicious cycle of squatting particularly in Metro Manila where most poor Filipinos from the provinces seem to converge. We will write a custom essay sample on Urban Poor or any similar topic only for you Order Now Arrogant Filipino squatters The squatters or illegal settlers need to move out of wherever they have been squatting for years or even decades because they simply do not belong there. They have long enjoyed their stay, living on abandoned or unoccupied areas of land without being asked to move out. Some of them clog the rivers not just with their garbage, but also with their human waste, which eventually result in the flooding of the streets and residential areas of the cities specially in times of heavy rain. As long as the squatters remain where they are and are allowed to flourish, the Philippines will not reach its full potential as a business hub that finds favor in the eyes of foreign investors. Squatters indiscriminately dump waste onto Manilaââ¬â¢s waterways. In other words, the activities of the people squatting are foul. They have no concern or respect for the rights or property of others and have total disregard for the environment and welfare of other people. Some squatters can also be quite arrogant, defiant and selfish when law enforcement agencies finally clamp down on their illegal activities. One video shows illegal settlers berating the court sheriffand demanding to know when and if they are going to be paid by cash or check before they agree to being relocated. Some even joked that the check better not bounce. They appeared to be enjoying their few minutes of fame in front of the camera relating their tales of woes. One wonders why the news crew tends to focus only on their plight and not the story behind why they were allowed to stay there for so long. There is a lot to be said about why they were allowed to stay squatting to begin with. The squatter problem in the Philippines has been made complicated by misguided Filipinos who think that it is the Philippine governmentââ¬â¢s sole responsibility to provide housing, education and health for them. Not only is this notion unsustainable, it is an unfair burden on taxpayers. Retired Chief Justice Reynato Puno recently said that ââ¬Å"Filipinos must be able to demand from their government their right to housing, education and health, or these socioeconomic rights would remain mere words on paper. â⬠While Punoââ¬â¢s sentiments seem noble, Filipino taxpayers simply cannot afford to fund the growing number of Filipinos living below the poverty line. Some of these squatters, despite living in tiny quarters no bigger than a box, have no qualms about multiplying at a fast rate. Perhaps they have been led to believe that their children can be used to gain access to hand outs from the government. Filipino politicians do not help solve the problem of squatters at all. If anything, they actually contribute to their proliferation. The root cause of the squatter problem seems to be the lack of urban planning from each Barangay and weak enforcement of the law by members of various agencies who are not doing their jobs properly. Obviously, they did not nip the problem in the bud. Had they been doing their jobs, they could have easily evicted the first squatter before they multiplied and became the enormous problem they are today. Apparently, there are times when the law enforcement agencies that include the police and the court sheriff are helpless in certain situations. They are supposed to act independently from elected officials but are unable to do their jobs until they get instructions from city Mayors who hold off on evicting squatters during election season or when their popularity is waning. This was evident when Davao Mayor Sara Duterte assaulted a court sheriff 2011 because the latter initiated the demolition of shanties in Davaoââ¬â¢s Agdao district without her go signal. She said that she felt compelled to punch the sheriff to prevent violence from ensuing. The irony in justifying the Mayorââ¬â¢s actions escaped her and a lot of people who supported her when she attracted criticism. Duterteââ¬â¢s actions probably made a lot of squatters think they need to be handled with kidsââ¬â¢ gloves. These politicians have emboldened squatters who are now quick to throw a tantrum and use violence whenever they are dissatisfied with the governmentââ¬â¢s approaches and arrangements to relocate them. Bianca Gonzalez: the long-awaited messiah of anti-squatter activism! Lately, the squattersââ¬â¢ sense of entitlement and tough stance have finally caught the attention of some of the members of the upper and middle class who are fed up with the troubles they are causing. A celebrity and social media activist, Bianca Gonzalez have spoken out against the way the Philippine government treats squatters like ââ¬Å"babiesâ⬠. She is getting a lot of kudos for her unwavering stand against the lack of fairness in how the issue is being handled. She highlighted that law-abiding citizens work hard to save money to be able to buy property legally but still get taxed for it while squatters donââ¬â¢t even pay anything to stay in illegally occupied lands. Itââ¬â¢s been noted that a lot of the squatters show their arrogance while demanding compensation from the taxpayers. Speaking of babies for that matter, some people who canââ¬â¢t afford to feed themselves shouldnââ¬â¢t have more babies. It has come to the attention of many Filipinos too that a convoluted law on squatters introduced in 1997 has made it difficult for the government to evict squatters. Republic Act 7279 merely punishes the ââ¬Å"professional squattersâ⬠. They are defined by law as those who can afford to pay for legitimate housing or those who have received housing units from the government but have sold or leased it to others so they themselves can settle illegally again in another urban area in order to deceive the system by asking for more compensation. In other words, most squatters donââ¬â¢t even get penalized anymore for their illegal activities. They even get rewarded for wreaking havoc in the community. No wonder a lot of Filipinos would rather stay as squatters and have adopted a squatter mentality. Who can solve the squatter problem in the Philippines? Certainly, the incumbent President Benigno Simeon ââ¬Å"BSâ⬠Aquino cannot solve it. Someone even said that the Aquino-Conjuangco clans also act like squatters who have occupied Hacienda Luisita for decades. Violence and intimidation were key to helping them keep the lands that were meant for the poor farmers. BS Aquino seems more preoccupied with his popularity than providing a permanent solution to the countryââ¬â¢s long-standing issues. He will not risk the wrath of the squatters because the Liberal Party still needs to get their votes in the next Presidential election. The President could even increase the number of recipients of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) or dole outs to the poor as a way distracting them from the lack of progress during his term. The reaction of the members of the thinking class is long overdue. They need to step up and call out what the government is doing, which is simply coddling the squatters. Philippine politicians need to quit being overprotective of people who abuse the system just to get the votes in the next election. This abusive behavior from both the public officials who buy off votes using tax payerââ¬â¢s money and squatters who take advantage of the situation need to end lest every corner of the country get run over by squatters. One Hundred Years of Solitude Essay Example For Students
One Hundred Years of Solitude Essay Since the beginning of time, man has clung to the notion thatthere exists some external force that determines his destiny. InGrecian times, the epic poet Hesoid wrote of a triumvirate ofmythological Fates that supposedly gave ââ¬Å"to men at birth evil andgood to haveâ⬠. In other words, these three granted man his destiny. Clotho ââ¬Å"spun the thread of lifeâ⬠, Lacheis distributed the lots, andAtropos with his ââ¬Å"abhorred shearsâ⬠would ââ¬Å"cut the thread atdeathâ⬠(Hamilton-43). All efforts to avoid the Fates were in vain. Inevery case their sentence would eventually be delivered. And itappears that once the Fatesââ¬â¢ ballot had been cast, the characters inGreek myths had no chance for redemption. One must wonder if man, likethe Greeks portrayed, has any real choice in determining how he lives. That issue of choice arises when comparing Gabriel Marquezââ¬â¢s OneHundred Years of Solitude and Yasunari Kawabataââ¬â¢s Thousand Cranes. Themen in Yasunari Kawabataââ¬â¢s Thousand Cranes and Gabriel GarciaMarquezââ¬â¢s One Hundred Years of Solitude forever seem to be repeatingthe lives of their male ancestors. These cycles reveal that man as abeing, just like the mythological heros, has no true choice in theultimate course his life will take. The male charactersââ¬â¢ personaldevelopment is overshadowed by the identity of their ancestors. Clotho, it appears, has recycled some of her spinning thread. The newmale generations, superficially, are perceived to be woven of likedesign. Kikuji Mitani and the male Buendiaââ¬â¢s face communities thatremember their ancestors. As a result, their unique communitiesinadvertently compare the actions of the sons to their respectivefathersââ¬â¢, having recognized the apparent similarities. Eclipsed by hisfatherââ¬â¢s aura, within his village, Kikujiââ¬â¢s identity has no separatedefinition. To most townsfolk, like those at Chikakoââ¬â¢s tea ceremony,Kikuji exists as ââ¬Å"Old Mr. Mitaniââ¬â¢s sonâ⬠(16). He and his father aretherefore viewed as essentially the same person. Kikuji can take noaction to change the villageââ¬â¢s preformed perception. In contrast, The Aurelianos and Jose Arcadios have been set into aself that their name, not their upbringing, dictate. Ursula, aftermany years drew some conclusions about ââ¬Å"the insistent repetition ofnamesâ⬠(106) within the Buendia family. While the eldest Jose ArcadioBuendia was slightly crazy, his raw maleness is transferred to all theJose Arcadioââ¬â¢s that follow. They tended to be ââ¬Å"impulsive andenterprisingâ⬠though ââ¬Å"marked with a tragic signâ⬠(186). On the otherhand, the Aurelianos, corresponding to the open-eyed Colonel, seem tobe ââ¬Å"indifferentâ⬠(15) and ââ¬Å"withdrawnâ⬠(186) yet sparked with a ââ¬Å"fearlesscuriosityâ⬠(15). The Aurelianosââ¬â¢ tendency towards solitude that shutthe Colonel away in his later years, would generations later, give hisdistant descendant Aureliano Babilonia the stamina to decipherMelquiades scriptures(422). Together, this perfunctory familytradition seemed to influence the course these menââ¬â¢s liveââ¬â¢s would takein the same way that Kikujiââ¬â¢s perception by his community lopped himinto the path of his father. And just as Kikuji could not change thevillages preformed opinions, the nam ed Buendia males can have no handin changing their given characters. The menââ¬â¢s selection of lovers, in turn, continues to perpetuatetheir cycle of behavior shared with their relatives. Despite warnings,Kikuji Mitani and the Buendia men engage in hazardous sexual activitythat harbors grave consequences. Lacheisââ¬â¢ lots, in this case, areinevitable. Choice and independent action are impossible for these mensince Lacheis has distributed the familial key to their femaleattractions. There is an eerie twist in Kikujiââ¬â¢s Mitaniââ¬â¢s love affairswith his fatherââ¬â¢s mistress and her daughter. His first encounter withMrs. Ota leaves Kikuji suspicious of the affair where agewise, ââ¬Å"Mrs. .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 , .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .postImageUrl , .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 , .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7:hover , .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7:visited , .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7:active { border:0!important; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7:active , .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7 .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub75dbf6ab9e737a4a71d1919e3642bf7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: An Investigation of Japanese Corporate Culture, Its Trends And Changes EssayOta was at least forty-five , some twenty years older thanKikujiâ⬠(28). However, despite the generation gap, during theirencounter Kikuji had felt that he ââ¬Å"had a woman younger than he in hisarmsâ⬠(28). Mrs. Ota had substituted Kikuji as his father, thus forcingKikuji to follow in his fathers footsteps. Kikuji is not oblivious tothe strange path his love life seems to be taking, yet he does nothingto resist. Instead, a defiant Kikuji asserting that he had not beenseduced determines, it was something else that had drawn him to her. The ââ¬Å"something elseâ⬠was generational fate stepping in to turn thecycle, overriding Kikujiââ¬â¢s notion to choose. Later, when Kikuji takesFumiko, this patterned love affair cycles once again. He is doing thesame thing as his father had done before him, but with the nextgeneration. Though Kikuji does not feel guilt about the association(93), he cannot explain why he chose Fumiko over a near perfectInamura girl. In the Buendia family, too, sexual relationships provideevidence for a continuing predestined cycle. Only in One Hundred Yearsof Solitude, these relations exist in the form of incest. From thebeginning of the novel the Buendia family is aware of the dangers ofinterbreeding. A preoccupied Ursula is apprehensious aboutconsummating her love with Jose Arcadio Buendia because of the familylegend of the an incestual Pigââ¬â¢s tail(20). Nevertheless, she abandonsher fears of a mutant offspring under the heavy persuasion of JoseArcadio Buendia, and succumbs to the ma rriage. In the years to follow, the pattern of incest continues when Jose Arcadio sleeps with PilarTernera(30-31). Jose and Pilar are not related through blood, but JoseArcadio had come to look at Pilar as a comforting mother. In thatscope, the phenomenon becomes based on a sense of safety that rests inthe family not just on lust. Once again, their relationship becomesincestuous. With nearly every incestuous love fair that comes to frontthe Buendias thereafter, the woman warns of the curse but the manpresses on. And for one hundred years, though time and time againcharacters commit the sin of incest, the Buendia curse is notfulfilled. In the end ,however, when Amaranta Ursula and Aurelianounknowingly unite, they reenact the fated Buendia curse of yearsbefore. Born to them is a child with ââ¬Å"the tail of a pigâ⬠(417). Thepattern of the Buendiaââ¬â¢s incestual choice is so uncanny and sorepetitive that like Kikujiââ¬â¢s reliving of his fatherââ¬â¢s life, itbecomes evid ent that the phenomenon is far more than a simplecoincidence. Kawabata and Marquez are distributing the males theselots to show how small the individualââ¬â¢s role is in determining hisfate. Though the men make various attempts to stray from fates path, their efforts prove futile as their struggles always bring them backto where they began. When Atropos decides to snip away at theirlivelihoods, their valiant efforts to outwit and avoid are no matchfor their chosen fate. Nevertheless, at one point or another bothKikuji and the Buendia men naively attempt to override their fate. While not always a conscious effort, their futile divergence alwaysresults in failure, reaffirming the strength of their predestination. Being an inert character, Kikuji often times fails to take action. Thus, his rebellion is manifested in thoughts of disagreement. Chikakois a constant source of unpleasantness for Kikuji. He is disgustedwith himself for having let her take some control of his life. YetKikuji, like his father, cannot seem to rid himself of the intrusiveChikako. In response to the neuterââ¬â¢s meddling, Kikuji takes slanderousshots behind her back. He complains to Mrs. Ota of Chikakoââ¬â¢sââ¬Å"Poisonâ⬠(30), but refuses to confront her. Thus he cannot get her outof his life and his fated oppression is continued. Kikujiââ¬â¢s thoughtsof divergence take hold again when he realizes there is somethingwrong becoming involved with Fumiko. With her he is tormented,ââ¬Å"conscious of Fumikoââ¬â¢s mother, Mrs. Ota,â⬠(132) but through hisinaction, Kikuji lets himself be pulled into another devastatingrelationship that ultimately ends in the suicide of his newfound love. .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca , .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .postImageUrl , .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca , .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca:hover , .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca:visited , .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca:active { border:0!important; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca:active , .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub5394726d2b976792b70138dd419a6ca:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Printing Press EssayHis thoughts symbolized his divergence, yet his inert tendencies keephim on the course life had laid. In One Hundred Years of Solitude, Amaranta Ursula and Aurelianowent beyond assuming tradition by investigating if they were in anywayrelated. In doing this, they made a conscious effort far superior thanany Buendia before them to examine their relationship and prevent theincest. Indeed, they knew the danger associated with incest, so theytried to avoid it. Their efforts, of course, proved in vain. Theirinquiry remained superficial as they ââ¬Å"accept(ed) the version of thebasketâ⬠(415). Aureliano Babilonia was trying to ââ¬Å"spare themselvesâ ⬠oneââ¬Å"terrorâ⬠(415) but ultimately exchanged it for the true destructionthat fate would bring. The couple had the chance to further probe, butstopped short and took the easy route of fateââ¬â¢s guidance. Thiscomfortable path led them to the final deliverance. Their fate isfulfilled when a child with a tale of a pig is born unto them. Theirhorror is comparative to Kikuji when he learns of Fumikoââ¬â¢s suicide andfinds himself left only with the despised Chikako. The quest for themost meaningful life had been swiftly cut for these males despitetheir ardent objections. The modern world may not believe in theGrecian Fates, but that doesnââ¬â¢t destroy the value of their underlyingtheme. The Fates were an attempt by men to explain the unexplainable, the coincidences in the odd. In One Hundred Years of Solitude andThousand Cranes there are many events that canââ¬â¢t be explainedrationally, specifically why the male characters continue to repeatactions that promise condemnation. Thus, the characterââ¬â¢s efforts toshape his destiny ultimately becomes futile in the face of the desiresof some unknown manipulator- characterized by the theme of Fate.

Wuthering Heights - Catherine And Heathcliff Essays - British Films
Wuthering Heights - Catherine And Heathcliff Wuthering Heights - Catherine and Heathcliff Essay written by Midnight Toker A Presentation of the Personalities of Heathcliff and Murray Kempton once admitted, No great scoundrel is ever uninteresting. The human race continually focuses on characters who intentionally harm others and create damaging situations for their own benefit. Despite popular morals, characters who display an utter disregard for the natural order of human life are characters who are often deemed iconic and are thoroughly scrutinized. If only the characters of Emily Brontes Wuthering Heights were as simple as that. Set on the mysterious and gloomy Yorkshire moors in the nineteenth century, Wuthering Heights gives the illusion of lonesome isolation as a stranger, Mr. Lockwood, attempts to narrate a tale he is very far removed from. Emily Brontes in-depth novel can be considered a Gothic romance or an essay on the human relationship. The reader may regard the novel as a serious study of human problems such as love and hate, or revenge and jealousy. One may even consider the novel Brontes personal interpretation of the universe. However, when all is said and done, Heathcliff and Catherine are the story. Their powerful presence permeates throughout the novel, as well as their complex personalities. Their climatic feelings towards each other and often selfish behavior often exaggerates or possibly encapsulates certain universal psychological truths humans are too afraid to express. Heathcliff and Catherines stark backgrounds evolve respectively into dark personalities and mistaken life paths, but in the end their actions determine the course of their own relationships and lives. Their misfortunes, recklessness, willpower, and destructive passion are unable to penetrate the eternal love they share. Heathcliffs many-faceted existence is marked by wickedness, love, and strength. His dark actions are produced by the distortion of his natural personality. Although Heathcliff was once subjected to vicious racism due to his dark skin color and experienced wearisome orphan years in Liverpool, this distortion had already begun when Mr. Earnshaw brought him into Wuthering Heights, a dirty, ragged, black-haired child(45; ch.7). Already he was inured to hardship and uncomplainingly accepted suffering. Heathcliff displays his strength and steadfastness when he had the measles, and when Hindley treated him cruelly if he got what he wanted. From the very beginning he showed great courage, resoluteness, and love. Few have the audacity to be victimized (as Heathcliff was by Hindley after Mr. Earnshaws death) and find secret delight in his persecutor sinking into a life of debauchery which will undoubtedly cause his own death. Not only did Heathcliff show his strength through Hindley, but also by following his personal goal of a life with Catherine Earnshaw. Heathcliff vanishes for three years to win Cathy over with his successes. He chose to fight a battle most would never attempt to begin. Heathcliff, being the survivor that he is, proved himself to be quite a gentleman. Nelly offers her impression when narrating, he would certainly have struck a stranger as a born and bred gentleman (130; ch. 14). Although Heathcliffs personality is so unusually and intensely strong, he does emit qualities rooted in ourselves. His trials and tribulations only develop and exaggerate the darkness and violence inherited in not only Heathcliff, but everyone. However, Heathcliffs wickedness is entirely inappropriate and unusual. Without question he is brutal. The primal and universal darkness in Heathcliff must not be excused. The vicious manner n which he helps to destroy Hindley, kidnaps Cathy and Nelly, and brutalizes Isabella and Hareton, suggests that he is not born with the same prima l and universal structure as everyday man, but some other disturbed quality. For example, Isabella in a letter to Ellen wrote, Is Mr. Heathcliff a man? And if so, is he mad? And if not, is he a devil? (121; ch. 13). The antisocial menace now induces pain on his undeserving wife. In just a few chapters the reader identifies with Heathcliffs dark instincts, awes at his inability to feel compassion in certain instances, and becomes intrigued with his passion and undying love for Cathy. Lockwoods first impressions of this gentleman reflect the complex and contrasting images he presents simultaneously when he quotes, But Mr. Heathcliff forms a singular contrast to his abode and style of

Administration of appropriate behavior in children
Administration of appropriate behavior in children A childââ¬â¢s behavior is very imperative in determining the future of a society; therefore, monitoring oneââ¬â¢s child/adolescent behavior enables the parents to track any changes, which would deserve correction. According Chance (2003), behavior builds up into oneââ¬â¢s character and therefore, parents play an important role in shaping a childââ¬â¢s character (p.65). Psychologists divide punishment as either positive or negative.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Administration of appropriate behavior in children specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Positive punishment is the ââ¬Å"presentation of a stimulus that decreases the future likelihood of a behavior to occurâ⬠¦negative punishment is the removal of a stimulus that decreases the likelihood of a behavior to occur in futureâ⬠(Domjan Burkhard, 1982, p.67). In both cases, the punishment works to reduce the likelihood of future occurrence of beh avior. If used appropriately, punishment can eliminate an odd behavior. The only disadvantage is that it takes a great deal of time and energy to implement. Behavior modification by punishment is very complex. Effective punishment administration is very specific in its order of delivery. Delivering punishment in a state of anger may result in violation of the rules of effective punishment administration hence end up with negative results (Domjan, 1996, p.28). Secondly, children learn best from copying their parentsââ¬â¢ behaviors. However, children may grow to develop aggressive behaviors to cope up with their problems. Punishment works to eliminate inappropriate behavior but there is no introduction of other appropriate behaviors to replace the inappropriate one. The child ends up replacing an inappropriate behavior with an inappropriate one. By default, the disadvantages of punishment far out do the advantages. Another form of administering the correct behavior is by use of rei nforcement, but it can also be negative or positive. Reinforcement is the ââ¬Å"introduction or removal of a stimulus that increases the occurrence of a certain behavior in futureâ⬠(Michael, 2005, p. 219). Therefore, parents should dwell on the positive reinforcement; for instance, a parent might decide to take a child out upon completion of a certain task. This way, parents introduce an appropriate behavior to replace the inappropriate one hence parents should embrace it. Parents should embrace reinforcement as its advantages outdo those of punishment. The Definition of Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
The Definition of Art - Essay Example Art in the Middle Ages can be seen to be dominated by themes of Christianity as the Paganism of the shattered Roman Empire gave way to the Christian belief structures of the new emperors and rulers. From roughly the 500s to the 1500s, art was dominated by a rigid interpretation offered by religious leaders rather than through any of the science or knowledge that had been gained in earlier centuries. Like the Renaissane itself, the Middle Ages can often be broken down into three distinct periods: the early middle ages, the central middle ages and the late middle ages. ââ¬Å"During the early Middle Ages, most paintings were found in the form of illustrated manuscripts. This remained the chief form of painting for yearsâ⬠(Rymer, 2004). A chief reason for this was due to the fact that much of the art produced during this period was produced in the only place where individuals had the leisure and materials with which to produce it and where the wealth consented to support it. Manus cripts were important in preserving the knowledge of the church before the printing press was invented and the illustration of these manuscripts was encouraged by those individuals with the power and strength to encourage it but without the knowledge to read it. ââ¬Å"During the time of Charlemagne, a large emphasis was placed on learning. Though Charlemagne could not read, he supported the development of illustrated textsâ⬠(Rymer, 2004). Color usage was relatively muted in the earliest examples of illustrated manuscripts.

PT.garuda indonesia - Essay Example In the year 1990, the country has around 10 airlines where in the year 2005, the number has increased to more than 30. Some of the leading airlines include Indonesia Air Asia, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Wings Air, Mandala Air, Batavia Air etc. 1.2 Background of PT. Garuda Indonesia Garuda Indonesia is a leading airline organization. The airlineââ¬â¢s first flight started off in the year 1949. Despite of financial downturn in 2007, the airline company has been able to secure considerable profitability in the years 2007, 2008 and 2009. Part B 2.0 Factors Affecting Demand and Supply (theories & applications) 2.1 Factors Affecting Demand There are several factors affecting the demand side of the airline industry. Factors like price, quality, number of buyers, number of suppliers, income, expected future price, demographics, population growth, seasonality etc. In this segment, four factors have been discussed in this sector to describe the impact of the sam e on the airline industry. 2.1.1 Price The following is the demand curve showing the movement of demand against price movements. Figure: Demand Curve (Source: Stanford, n.d.) As the price of the product would increase the demand is supposed to decrease, while the demand would increase with the declining price. In the decreasing airfares will increase the demand. In case, the airline companies decide to decrease the airfares, they are expected to experience less demand than before as more and more travelers would prefer to travel by train and other transportation mediums rather than taking the expensive flights. In this case, the movement will happen along the demand curve. The figure 1.1 diagram shows what would happen to the demand of any product or service incase of price variation when all other influential variables are held constant. 2.1.2 Number of Buyers Number of Buyers is a significant factor to determine the demand in the airline industry. When the number of customers woul d increase, the quantity demanded would increase leading to increased market demand (Mankiw, 2008, p. 71). However, if the number of customers decreases in this industry, the demand would decline. For an instance, after the tragic incident of 9/11, the airline industry has experienced a decline in the number of air travelers due to some security related issues. So, if the number of buyers increases, the demand curve would shift rightwards. As more customers would want to buy the tickets, the quantity demanded would increase incorporating a shift in the demand curve in the rightward direction, from d1 to d2. As the quantity demanded would increase at a fixed price, the demand expected to increase keeping the price point constant. If the quantity demanded is less, then the demand graph is going to shift leftwards. In simple terms, as the number of customers would increase for the airline industry, the demand curve is expected to experience shift in its position. 2.1.3 Income The deman d curve wo

The Third Battle Of Ypres History Essay
The Third Battle Of Ypres History Essay The Battle of Passchendaele also known as the Third Battle of Ypres. This was one of the major battles of World War I and consisted of a series of different operations and engagements between the 31st of July and the 6th of November with the objective of capturing vast amounts of German territory as well as destroying German submarine bases along the Belgian coast in an effort to thwart enemy naval capabilities. This campaign, unlike some others launched in the First World War, was meticulously planned by British Commander-in-Chief General Douglas Haig. However, General Haig was known as a stubborn man and showed major reluctance to modernise his tactics and strategies as a Commander, failing to see the use of artillery and being of the opinion that the Cavalry Charge still had a place in modern military tactics and because of this he may have been responsible for the heavy losses suffered by Allied forces at both Ypres and the Somme due to his unwillingness to deviate from his initi al strategies. The precursor to the Battle of Passchendaele was to be a preliminary artillery barrage against the entrenched Germans and their defenses on June 7, 1917 with the objective of softening the defensive lines to allow for an easier advance by Allied. Earlier, the British and Australians had deviantly planted 21 mines containing 450,000 kilograms of high explosives beneath the German defensive lines and their detonation signalled the initial attack by ANZAC forces who managed to take the town of Messines proper within two hours and subsequently the Messines ridge. The Battle of Messines alerted the already aware Germans of an impending attack. Three Victoria Cross medals were awarded to the ANZAC forces here. -Show Battle of Messines overview and point out battle lines- Following the Battle of Messines British forces began artillery bombardment on the Gheluvelt plateau which overlooked the town of Ypres. The bombardment again notified the German forces of impending attack and they moved troops to the front lines in response. The beginning of what would eventually become known as the Battle of Passchendaele started on July 31st with the Battle of Pilckem Ridge, in which 32,000 Allied lives were lost for the gain of 1,800 meters, and with the Battle of Langemarck which commenced slightly later on the 16th of August. These attacks allowed British forces to secure valuable footholds from which they would later attack Passchendaele. -Show Battle of Passchendaele overview, point out Allied and German positions- It is at this point that General Herbert Plumer took command of the Allied forces from General Hubert Gough, who favoured sweeping aggression, and abandoned the tactics that were failing to help the Allies to gain any appreciable ground and started to employ the same tactics that the ANZACs used successfully in the Battle of Messines. General Plumer planned to create smaller, more easily obtainable objectives instead of having the advancing parties rushing as far as they could before becoming exhausted and being repelled by fresh German reserves. September 20th, 52 days since the beginning of the Battle of Passchendaele. The Allies have gained a mere 2.5 kilometres for the loss of approximately 60,000 men or 24 men per meter. Haig was wagering that the German army would break soon, unable to continue reinforcing the front lines due to the heavy losses they sustained earlier at the Somme and Verdun. Plumer now starts the Battle of Menin Road, an engagement that would last 5 days. German defences are fierce with many young Australian soldiers falling to the bullets and shells of enemy infantry, pillboxes and artillery, ultimately limiting the gain of the Allies to 1,400 meters of territory while costing the lives 21,000 Allied soldiers or 15 men per meter gained, ANZAC deaths included. It followed a heavy artillery barrage with a reported 3.5 million artillery shells being fired with an allotment of one artillery piece for every five yards of the attack front. This major loss of ground by the Germans convinced them that their p revious tactic of defence in depth was obsolete and prompted a change in the way the lines were reinforced and held to create a more elastic defence. This caused heavier loses for the Germans during the preparatory bombardment and their subsequent counter-attacks. This would bode well for the Australians as more lives were about to be thrown at the enemy for more trivial territory gains. -Show picture of Australian soldiers are the Battle of Polygon Wood- The day after the Battle of Menin Road the Australian 4th and 5th Divisions would fight in a small conflict called the Battle of Polygon Wood, named for the shape the woods lay across the axis of the advancing Australian forces. The Australians were tasked with building upon the gains made during the Battle of Menin Road, however atop a large earthen mound overlooking the battlefield was the German position, heavily fortified by machine gun nests, dugouts and foxholes, ready to repel the advancing forces. Artillery covering the advance of Australian soldiers was heavy with one gun for every nine meters of the front, demolishing the Wood itself and destroying some of the German emplacements. By the time the soldiers had assaulted German positions the wood had been reduced to naught but splinters and broken wood but despite the heavy bombardment by Allied artillery, German pillboxes harassed the Australian soldiers, protecting the machine gunners hidden inside, ending the lives of appr oximately 7,200 Aussie men. It was the courage, mateship, fighting spirit and unwillingness to back down that helped the Australian soldiers take the Wood that was so heavily defended by the German army and repel the subsequent desperate counter-attacks launched. The following Battle of Broodseinde was the final time General Plumers strategy of biting and holding territory was successful and was a shining example that the spirit of the Allied forces could overcome even the hardest of German defences. From the outlook the men of I ANZAC and II ANZAC were tasked with capturing the crest of the previously mentioned Gheluvelt Plateau In conclusion, the Battle of Passchendaele was a cohesive event for the Australians as they gained respect as a formidable and capable fighting force from their Allies, strengthening the bond between the nations fighting men. It is also the embodiment of the courageous fighting spirit shown by the ANZACs that allowed the men to continue taking the battle to the Germans after losing 38,000 men of the original 70,000 to the bitter battle of attrition. For the massive number of troops lost on both sides, approximately 310,000 for the Allies and 260,000 for the Germans, for the gain of only a few kilometres. It is interesting to note that Adolf Hitler fought in the Battle of Passchendaele with the 6th Bavarian Reserve Division where he was injured on October 13, 1918 by a British gas attack.

Researchers routinely choose an ? -level of 0. 05 for testing their hypotheses. What are some experiments for which you might want a lower ? -level (e. g. , 0. 01)? What are some situations in which you might accept a higher level (e. g. , 0. 1)? You are correct when you say that the influence of the media has an affect on the children of ââ¬Å"todaysâ⬠behavior. There are so many TV shows and movies that protray violence and crime, I think it may lay the foundation for ideas for the kids that do not have a lot of parental supervision. Some of the video and computer games are the worst for violence. Also the way parents punish their children for bad behavior has changed. They do not have the respect for the parents that use to be there. So if they don't respect their parent they are not going to respect another adult. They feel they can get away with almost anything. You would have a great study also. Debbie Great and interesting post, I agree with your statement that an importa nt and good standards are part of every cultures. To respect parents are an important aspect of parent and child relationship. But as you mentioned things have changed in the process of time. There are a lot of factors to consider in this changes i. e. , the environment that we live in, peer groups, and too much exposure to television that shows violent behaviors, and not to mention the lack of time or lack of parental involvement in their children. Very interesting. Substantive Post Yes | No Reply | Quote & Reply | Report Abuse DQ Points Abuse Reports Great post and well explain ed. I do agree with you that sending a questionnaire to the parents to gather data is a good idea. Children model adult behavior on television and in real life. And they replicate language they learn online. It is not uncommon to hear foul language spoken by children just learning to talk.Thatââ¬â¢s because children are systemically connected to everything around them. The world is their learning environment. We are their teachers. Admittedly, there are many roadblocks to reversing the downward trend of civility in today's society. But that doesnââ¬â¢t mean we shouldnââ¬â¢t. In fact, as parents, teachers, politicians, television producers, and others who impact childrenââ¬â¢s lives, we have a responsibly to do so because studies show that incivility leads to violence and unhealthy communities. Alan Bennet’s “Talking Heads” – A monologue commentary
After reading a selection of monologues from Alan Bennett's ââ¬Å"Talking Headsâ⬠, I was inspired to right one of my own. In my monologue the focus is on a young girl who lives alone with her father, who abuses her. The title, ââ¬ËA father's love', is ironic because if her father loved her, then why would he abuse her? This links to the monologues written by Alan Bennett as he also uses the technique of irony to engage the audience. The opening stage directions show some aspects of the character's lifestyle, ââ¬Å"Emma sits on a battered leather armchair in a plain living roomâ⬠From reading this, the audience will be able to identify the poor lifestyle that the girl experiences; this is also shown in a further set of stage directions ââ¬Å"Emma is washing dishes in a basic, untidy looking kitchen.â⬠In both instances there are hints of poverty, yet her father finds enough money to go to the pub at night. This helps to reveal her father's character and his priorities. In the first section of the monologue there is no clue as to what the problem could be, but as the monologue progresses the clues become clearer and the audience may have more of an idea of what the girl is experiencing. For example, ââ¬Å"I said I was sorry about the medication but it really wasn't my fault, there wasn't a need for the way he reacted.â⬠There it becomes obvious to the audience that the girl's father has a bad temper. This idea is developed in the next section of the monologue as the girl debates whether or not to go to school. It now becomes apparent that he has hit her. To create a more obvious clue I had to re draft my monologue in order for the audience to pick up on the problem, ââ¬Å"How can I go to school with a face like thisâ⬠¦ I could just tell everyone I fell down the stairs.â⬠The clues are really subtle at first but do become more obvious as the monologue progresses. I tried to create tragedy in the monologue by portraying the young girl as feeling alone in the world; she lives alone with her bad tempered father who drinks a lot. The tragedy is that she doesn't want to walk out on her father but she knows that it's not safe for her to stay. I think that the audience could identify this in the monologue. In my monologue, it shows the father suprising the young girl with a shopping trip; this was only through guilt. It's tragic that he has to show his love for his daughter by buying presents and not through affection. By the end of the monologue we can see that there has been no change in the attitude of the father, although he promises his daughter that things will change, they don't. Emma says, ââ¬Å"He promised me that he wasn't going to do this anymoreâ⬠¦ I just hope he isn't drunk again.â⬠This demonstrates her fear of her father. The last set of stage directions shows that the girl is frightened and that her father hasn't changed. The young girl knows what is going to happen when her father comes home. ââ¬Å"A door slams and a man is heard shouting from off stageâ⬠¦ He's home! (Frightened)â⬠I have tried to end my monologue on a tragic note, but leave the audience in suspense. It shows that the father has broke his promise and come in drunk again, but there is no indication as to whether he will beat his daughter.

Analysis Of Pinker s The, And The Expanding Circle By...
Pinker challenges the misconception about the amount of violence in the current period compared to previous periods in human history. Pinker goes on to utilize a background of historical evidence such as historical wars and the severity of punishments for crimes committed. In the past, minor crimes such as theft could result in a death punishment. Pinker demonstrates how punishments have become less violent for the crimes committed. Additionally, there appears to be more signs of human empathy towards others, aside from inner circle members such as family and friends. Pinker demonstrates how the reduction of violence levels could have attributed to media reporting, international trade, global communications and large central governments. Furthermore, Pinkerââ¬â¢s theorizes plausible explanations attributed to Thomas Hobbesââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Leviathanâ⬠, a wide spread sentiment that ââ¬Ëlife is cheapââ¬â¢, Robert Wrightââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Nonzero-sum Gamesâ⬠, and the â⠬Å"Expanding Circleâ⬠by Peter Singer. In Pinkerââ¬â¢s presentation, ââ¬Å"The Surprising Decline in Violenceâ⬠Pinker states the decline in violence is a ââ¬Ëfractal phenomenonââ¬â¢ with the ââ¬Å"tipping point starting at the Age of Reason in the sixteenth centuryâ⬠. The supporting evidence is divided into Four sub categories consisting of the Millennium Scale, the Century Scale, the Decade Scale and the Year Scale. Pinker begins the Millennium Scale at around 10,000 years ago, when humans were believed to be primarily hunters and gathers, at which point Pinker presents a graph

Personal Narrative A New Perspective - 1066 Words
A New Perspective I worked at the same place for two years. Although I had a sense of normalcy, my position changed overnight. I have been promoted from an Ohio Thrift employee to a manager. During my first official day of becoming a manager, I endured multiple tests on what it takes to run a business. Along the way, I acquired responsibility, authority, and knowledge. In preparation to walking into my job, I detected a sense of imbalance. Instead of feeling like a long-time employee, I started to have flashbacks to the first time I started work. As if I had not already known the store like the back of my hand, I knew I would undergo much more training and learning. While procrastinating in my car, I unwrinkled a piece of paper and wentâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I started to doubt if any of the employees would listen to me. Just a day ago I was a normal, part-time employee. I have mostly worked alongside my co-workers for months, even years. When the evening crew settled in, I worked up the courage to hand everyone a paper of tasks I wanted done by the end of the night- display Halloween, organize books, sweep floors, and rearrange womenââ¬â¢s coats. After some time, the floor gradually became more clean and organized. I occasionally walked around the entire store to observe the cleanliness. I had already prepared myself for the worst. I was prepared to leave the store with it looking like a total wreck. On the other hand, my doubts eventually started to change. I took honor in knowing that the employees were respecting me and my new position. I have achieved trust and authority with my co-workers. Despite having a good experience with my co-workers, I could not say the same about one specific customer. Close to closing time, I encountered a god-awful experience with a customer. While walking around the sales floor, I observed a man who seemed to be under the influence. While shopping, he slouched over as if he was falling asleep, until he suddenly popped up with bursts of energy. The man continued to doze in and out for some time. Eventually I lost sight of him and soon realized he has occupied the bathroom for over an hour. I accordingly sent a male employee in the restroom toShow MoreRelatedMultiple Theories Influenced The Development Of My Personal Model And Therapeutic Approach For Couples And Families1668 Words à |à 7 Pagesmultiple theories have influenced the development of my personal model and therapeutic approach to couples and families. Unit 210 Support learning activities - 814 Words
Unit 210: Support learning activities Assignment 1: Describe how a learning support practitioner may contribute to the planning, delivery and review of learning. What learning support strategies have you used or could you use to meet the needs of your learners? Learning support practitioners can be an invaluable resource in the successful planning, delivery and review of learning. They can offer immeasurable support to the teacher and, most importantly, to the pupils. However, that support is only truly effective if it is organized, structured and consistent ââ¬â both in terms of the learning objectives set by the teacher and the pupilââ¬â¢s own learning needs. There are many ways in which a learning support practitioner can contributeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The delivery of learning support is not complete, however, until you have fed back to both the pupil and the teacher and reviewed your own success as a learning support practitioner. In feeding back to the pupil it is vital that your feedback is constructive. This does not necessarily mean it has to be positive but it is vital that it is not destructive. It should serve to encourage and help the pupil. Feeding back to the teacher is equally as important as this will provide the teacher with information as to individual pupilsââ¬â¢ progress, any difficulties they might be having (or indeed that you might be having) and this in turn will feed into planning for the next lesson as per Wilkinsonââ¬â¢s Classroom Process Cycle. The importance of the role of teaching assistant should not be underestimated as they provide essential support to both teachers and pupils alike. Lots of people still believe that family business may easily destroy good and loving marriages: financial difficulties, unpredictable costs, desire to get higher position, etc. Of course, all these points may be crucial for some people and for some families, however, the Woods, Jeff and Julia, and their works prove that there are always some exceptions. These two great photographers create own business and develop it to such extent that there is not married couple, who, at least, has not heard about Jeff and Julia Woods. They have a really glamorous studio, they like to travel in order to satisfy their clients and present the best photos of their weddings, they enjoy sponsorship of lots of people, and they are respected by many people from different spheres of life. ââ¬Å"Jeffrey and Julia Woods operate a successful wedding and portrait studio that specializes in highly personalized images that reflect the tastes and experiences that make each client uniqueâ⬠(Perkins, 56). This is why their photos always interesting, beautiful, and full of real emotions. This famous studio can be found in Washington Illinois. However, their first works appeared at more modest place: they start this business as many other couples at their own home. With time, they earned enough money to change the location of their studio, buy all the necessary and modern technologies, and start promoting their services to a wide range of people.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design? Such a slight overview of Jeff and Juliaââ¬â¢ personal life provides us with an opportunity to get a clear understanding why their works are in such great demand ring the bells with couples. Now, let us talk more deeply about the works, which Jeff and Julia offer to their clients. ââ¬Å"Photographing your wedding is allowing us to be a part of the most intimate day of your lives. We are committed to pouring our hearts and souls into your love storyâ⬠(Jeffrey Julia Woods). In this paper, we take one of the weddings, where Jeff and Julia were hired to engrave peopleââ¬â¢s emotions, actions, feelings, and love. It was Brian and Jenniferââ¬â¢s wedding; the peculiar feature of this very wedding is close attention to each member of family. Jeff and Julie admitted that it was a real pleasure to work with their family as they have already got a chance to learn something about their traditions and preferences, because some time ago, they have worked with their relatives. In Appendix # 1, several photos of this wedding are presented. Jeff and Julia make both coloured and black-and-white photos. With the help of the light, it is possible to underline how wonderful and warm the day of this wedding is. Very often, the photographers focus on the sky and sunlight. The photo of the bride with sun against the background attracts my attention. This very picture presents rather captivating story: a women is happy, she does not close her eyes because of bright light, because her wedding veil protects her. From this very moment, she is under some kind of protection, offered by her future husband. She does not afraid to look forward and she knows that someone very dear is waiting for her in future. Another photo of a wedding dress deserves attention as well. This dress seems like to be in the air. It is a black-and-white picture; I comprehend such choice of colours in the following way. This dress is the thing, presented by bride and groomââ¬â¢s parents. It is one its way to the bride, but still, has some roots from the past, where parents and grandparents still are. This dress is one of the most important things during the wedding, and Julia and Jeff concentrate certain attention on it. Of course, the wedding is impossible without a groom, this is why several photos present the groom with his happiness and confidence, his power and care, his calmness and solidity. On the photo under consideration, there is no attention to the past or present, because right now, his emotions and feelings play the most significant role . He is ready to take the chosen woman and make her his wife. He does not afraid, and he is happy. There are no extra details on this photo; the Woods choose neutral light to attract the viewerââ¬â¢s attention on a person only. To my mind, this photo is really great. The last photo from the wedding under consideration is a kind of reunion of two loving people, who have not seen for some period of time, and now they are happy to be close to each other.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Jeff and Julia Woods: Passion to Making Photos specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More On the background, there is a bright sunlight. It may present a kind of Godââ¬â¢s consent on this union. Their wedding is blessed by God; they have the roof to be protected against nature whims; their movements are directed to each other, and their smile serve as the best proof of their desire to be together till the end of their lives. And, as it shoul d be ââ¬â they are happy and confident in their actions and thoughts. To my mind, it is not that easy to represent such story of life by means of photos. However, I really do not know all those people of pictures and my words are only the imagination, based on Jeff and Juliaââ¬â¢s work. This team presents really great pictures. Their work amazes many people; this is why the recognition of their works is obvious. In 2002 and 2003, Jeff and Julia Wood got the award WPPIââ¬â¢s Best Wedding Album of the Year. However, it is not the only one award they may be proud of. ââ¬Å"Two Fuji Masterpieces awards, and a Kodak Gallery Awardâ⬠(Hurter, 119) can also prove that their works deserve attention, analysis, and admiration. These two professionals realize how it is important to observe all technological innovations and present to their clients only modern works and services. For example, Julia and Jeff always adore films to present their photos; however, nowadays, many peopl e use such services like Facebook or YouTube, this is why digital preference takes leading positions. One of the major purposes of the Woods is to provide the best services for their clients, meet all the clientsââ¬â¢ preferences, and feel some kind of contact to comprehend what way of photographing should be chosen. The photographers admit that it turns out to be crucially important to feel at least some part of clientsââ¬â¢ emotions in order to represent them on photos, but still be true professionals and create worthwhile pictures. The life is the major subject on the photo. It is not enough just to make a photo of someone or something and present it as high-quality piece of work. Photos are the pieces of this life, and Julia and Jeff realize this truth and use it to astonish their clients and ordinary viewers. Properly chosen light, focus on one figure/event/movement/emotion, and love to clients ââ¬â all this make Jeff and Juliaââ¬â¢s works unique and unbelievably b eautiful. Without any doubts, the works by Jeffrey and Julia Woods are the significant part of the history of photography. So many people want to keep in mind some moments of their life for ever, and these two photographers help people to achieve the desirable purposes. There are lots of unbelievable moments in peopleââ¬â¢s life, and wedding is one of them. This is why with all respect to clients, weddings, and love, Jeffrey and Julia Woods continue creating more photos, which present a unique story of a happy wedding.Advertising Looking for essay on art and design?
