A New Perspective I worked at the same place for two years. Although I had a sense of normalcy, my position changed overnight. I have been promoted from an Ohio Thrift employee to a manager. During my first official day of becoming a manager, I endured multiple tests on what it takes to run a business. Along the way, I acquired responsibility, authority, and knowledge. In preparation to walking into my job, I detected a sense of imbalance. Instead of feeling like a long-time employee, I started to have flashbacks to the first time I started work. As if I had not already known the store like the back of my hand, I knew I would undergo much more training and learning. While procrastinating in my car, I unwrinkled a piece of paper and went†¦show more content†¦I started to doubt if any of the employees would listen to me. Just a day ago I was a normal, part-time employee. I have mostly worked alongside my co-workers for months, even years. When the evening crew settled in, I worked up the courage to hand everyone a paper of tasks I wanted done by the end of the night- display Halloween, organize books, sweep floors, and rearrange women’s coats. After some time, the floor gradually became more clean and organized. I occasionally walked around the entire store to observe the cleanliness. I had already prepared myself for the worst. I was prepared to leave the store with it looking like a total wreck. On the other hand, my doubts eventually started to change. I took honor in knowing that the employees were respecting me and my new position. I have achieved trust and authority with my co-workers. Despite having a good experience with my co-workers, I could not say the same about one specific customer. Close to closing time, I encountered a god-awful experience with a customer. While walking around the sales floor, I observed a man who seemed to be under the influence. While shopping, he slouched over as if he was falling asleep, until he suddenly popped up with bursts of energy. The man continued to doze in and out for some time. Eventually I lost sight of him and soon realized he has occupied the bathroom for over an hour.
